She’s Back.

Oh, hi friends. Or more like, people-I-abandon-every-year-and-just-turn-back-up-out-of-the-blue-with-a-new-post-whenever-I-want-and-expect-you-to-still-be-here-eager-to-read-my-stuff. What’s up with that?

No, seriously. I want to be back writing on this blog. I’m still paying for the domain, hosting, and extras after all.

This post is going to seem like a load of excuses as to why I keep bailing on my blog. And that’s exactly what it is. It’s my way of rationalising my behaviour but I readily accept your judgement.

Surprisingly, there are almost 100 of you signed up to receive updates from me that you simply don’t get. Let’s change that.

This time around, I’m here to share the things that I write because I enjoy it, not because I’m trying to be part of something, like the blogging community or the bookish community. I love having a foot in those worlds, but I no longer want to be stuck for what to write because I have to be niche to attract people.

A few years back I was writing “hygge” content; anything to do with being cosy. Which was fine, it’s what I created the blog for in the first place. But turns out I’m really picky about what I want to write about, so it was hard posting consistently. Part of running the blog became trying to push it on twitter to actually get some viewers and that wasn’t a lot of fun.

Then, a year or two ago, I decided to revamp my website and make it more about books and writing – a step in the right direction. Though, the book reviews I was doing weren’t bringing me any joy either. In fact, it made reading a chore! After finishing a wonderful book (or an average one) I’d have to sit down, try to remember every detail, and then critique it *yawn*. Not for me.

At the same time, I started writing short stories and learning more about flash fiction and the likes. Carrot Ranch Literary Community was dropping prompts for 99-word stories every week and I was in my element! Unfortunately I only managed to do a few of those before the site completely stopped posting and the host hasn’t been seen since. She was redoing the website but I think the job got too big and stressful for her, a shame. Nevertheless, that didn’t stop me from finding other places to find writing prompts and scribble down some silly stories.

So here we are today. I’m just writing this post to get the ball rolling. In future, I might share some of my short stories from prompts or make things up as I go. I’ve even been experimenting with poetry but who knows when I’ll feel good enough to share any poems. There’s a certain type of vulnerability in that that I’m not sure I can face yet.

If you’ve made it this far… bless you. I hope my rambling wasn’t too boring and that you stick around to see what I end up throwing out here.

Until Next Time,
Miriam

P.S. What do we think of my new theme and layout? I’m still fixing up little quirks so let me know if you see something that’s not quite right.

    1. Hi Caroline! Welcome back! As I was writing about hating the self promo on twitter back in the day, I did think of all the cool people and blogs I connected with in the process – like yourself 🤗
